InternalExternal

Medium: digital photography

This work is series of images depicting the way that people act privately, what they deeply desire, and the versions of themselves that they wish to portray externally. As opposed to other photographs I had taken over the semester, these images were highly thought out and staged. I worked to set up a scene, including the lighting, background, hair, makeup, and clothing. Visually, my main focus was to incorporate color as much as possible to go hand and hand with the series’ conceptual meaning. For the majority of the images, I worked to assimilate the color purple as well as its complementary color, yellow in subtle hints. Purple symbolizes mystery, desire, and spirituality, whereas yellow symbolizes optimism, idealism, and extraversion, thus accentuating the contrast between one’s internal self and external self.
